Preventing Water Damage in the Winter
The winter and holiday seasons are upon us, leaving most of us cold and incredibly busy. The last thing we want to deal with is something going wrong with our house and having to clean it up and spend the money to repair it. Luckily there are some tips to help prevent water damage during the winter.
Maintain temperature. When it starts to get cold outside, make sure you keep your basement and all areas of your house above 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This will help prevent your pipes from freezing and causing them to burst.
Inspect your house. Be on the lookout for cracks or holes where cold air can get in. You will want to get these filled up so that the heat will stay inside your home and your pipes.
Don’t turn off heat. When you leave on vacation for the holidays or even just for a weekend, don’t turn off your heat. Keep it at 55 degrees and you will be safe. If you turn the heat off you will be paying more for frozen and burst pipes than you would have for heating your home.
If your pipes do burst, make sure to contact a professional cleaning and restoration company. We offer these services and you can also contact us for more tips on how to keep your home safe and avoid flooding or water damage.
